Melling Tithebarn Arts Association - Newsletters

Chairman's newsletter January 2017

Dear member,

our next event on Friday 20th January at 7.30pm will be our AGM when all the members will have the opportunity to express their views. This will be followed by refreshments and entertainment by The Red Rosettes choir.

It is really vital that as many members as possible manage to come as we now have a critical shortage of committee members to run the association.

I will be standing down as Chairman because of health reasons. Brian Leach, our treasurer intends to stand down at 31st August, the end of our current financial year.

Our secretary Judith Kearney has already had to leave us for similar reasons, as has Ruth Allen.

Our remaining committee members Helene Wareing, Doreen Allan and Doreen Scott all work very hard but cannot be expected to carry the whole load.

We are now in the situation where unless a sufficient number of members come forward to take over the running of the association, it will have to close at the end of the current season. ie 31st August 2017.

If necessary a motion will be put to the members at the AGM to authorise that procedure.

Please make every effort to attend as sadly, this may possibly be our last AGM.

I hope you will be able to be there.

Regards,
Bob Wareing    Chairman

August  2016 - 2017 Programme

Hello
We are nearing the start of our 2016-2017 season and I would like to invite you to look at the programme and save the dates.

Like last year it is a diverse programme and I hope there will be concerts which you enjoy. Please encourage family and friends to come along with you to the concert evenings. You and they will be pleased that you did.

Our September concert was to have been a Barbershop Choir but sadly they have had difficulties and are no longer available to perform for us.

So I am very pleased to announce that for September 16th Phil Shotton the local MD for Maghull Wind Orchestra will now bring his Saxophone Quartet and give us a brilliant evening playing classics, corkers and foot-tapping crowd pleasers!
(Any tickets already purchased for September will still be honoured).

October 21st we have something completely different when Gravity Percussion will bring us music on marimbas, xylophones, chimes, bells, drums and many more fascinating instruments. We are in for a fabulous evening.

Also in October, the Melling Tithebarn Social Committee will be raising funds with their own Johnny Kennedy concert and supper.

On November 18th we will have music by the Bute Clarinet Quartet and enjoy the return of our hotpot supper. Please note admission for this evening will be by advance ticket only.

On December 16th our Christmas concert is expected to be very popular, with the St Nicholas Singers putting us in the festive mood, so please get your tickets early.

Membership subscriptions will be due in September and are still £5.00 per person and our ticket price remains the same excellent value at £8.00 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits. There will be a small additional charge for the November Friday Night Hotpot supper.
For your convenience the bar will be open for every performance this season so please get your drinks prior to the performance and during the interval. You can reserve your ticket via 0151 526 7238  or pay on the door.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Tithebarn.
Bob Wareing       Chairman

Friday 24th April We have the pleasure to present a Brass quintet of young players from the Royal Northern College of Music. They will entertain us with a mixture of jazz classics and their own extensive Brass repertoire. Do please come and help to support these young musicians who are just starting out on their careers in music.

Friday 22nd May We welcome Cantique, a very popular visiting choir, to the Tithebarn for an evening of popular enjoy the music.

Friday 19th June Georgina Aasgaard from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will present, with her harpist friend, an evening of Cello and Harp music. It promises to be an evening of unmissable music so put the date in your diaries.

We would like to use this newsletter to inform you of the impending retirement of several members of our Committee.

This means that we are looking for volunteers to take their place if the Tithebarn Arts Association is to continue functioning as it does at present, giving a platform for artists to entertain the local community. There will be further discussion at the AGM in March so please attend if you wish your thoughts and ideas to be heard. Meanwhile do continue to support us with your presence at our evenings at the Tithebarn.

We love to see you there, and wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year. May it be a healthy and peaceful one for us all.

Tickets for all these events are on sale at the Tithebarn, or can be reserved by leaving a message on the phone: 0151 526 7238. They remain at £7 inc.tea & biscuits.

MELLING TITHEBARN ARTS ASSOCIATION 2014

This is our first newsletter for the season 2014 -2015.We, the committee, hope you have enjoyed the summer break - we did have some lovely warm weather in spite of the rain lately. Still the gardens would not be beautifully green without the rain, so we must be thankful. We hope to see you all in the Tithebarn for our first concert on:

Saturday 20th September when we welcome the Birkenhead Operatic Society. They always present a lovely concert of varied musical items, and when we last welcomed them a few years ago, everyone really enjoyed the evening, going home refreshed with the delightfully presented concert. Please note that this performance is the only one we are presenting on a Saturday. This is owing to the fact that the artists travel a fair distance and during the week are doing their normal weekly jobs, which would make it difficult to finish work and then travel to the Tithebarn. We hope that the change of day will prove possible for all of you to attend.

Friday 17th October sees the return of the Hoghton Players presenting Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Iolanthe”. The Hoghton Players need no introduction to the Tithebarn, and the Operetta will be in the usual concert form. “Iolanthe” is a delectable combination of political satire and fairy magic, with the two sides - mortal and immortal - held in unique balance by Gilbert with his libretto and Sullivan with his music. Don’t miss it!

Friday 14th November we welcome soloists from West Kirby Light Opera Society ( WKLOS ) who will be telling the story of the lives and close friendship of those great British song and show writers Noel Coward and Ivor Novello. Noel Coward once said “There are two perfect things in this world… Ivor’s profile and my brain” Songs will include Waltz of My heart, Keep the Home fires burning, Mrs Worthington, Mad Dogs and Englishman, I’ll see you again, We’ll gather lilacs, London Pride, And her mother came too, Someday I’ll find you and many more. WKLOS have recently sung at the Liverpool Philharmonic, St George’s Hall, Liverpool Empire, and both the Anglican and Metropolitan Cathedrals. Again, do not miss this evening which promises to bring back many memories for all of us.

Friday 19th December is the evening we welcome Christmas with mulled wine, mince pies and the lovely warm atmosphere that is so special in the Tithebarn. Our guests for this concert are the Bach Choir from Southport. I am sure that they will present an evening for us to remember. This concert is always popular so do not forget that members will be able to reserve their tickets as soon as they have renewed their membership.

We look forward to welcoming you in September and would like to remind you that membership runs from September to June. Our committee will be on hand to help you fill in your new membership form for 2014-2015. The fee is still £5 per person.
Tickets for all these events are on sale at the Tithebarn, or can be reserved by leaving a message on the phone: 0151 526 7238. They remain at £7 inc.tea & biscuits.

We hope to see you all again soon at the Tithebarn.
